Foundational supports are general and targeted supports available to people with disability and their families without an individual NDIS plan. They are being rolled out jointly by the Commonwealth, states and territories following the NDIS Review.
For children under 9
- Early childhood approaches emphasise family capacity building and support in everyday settings — home, preschool, playgroup.
- Some children will be supported through foundational and mainstream services rather than an individual plan.
- Where a plan is in place, therapy is expected to be goal-based, evidence-informed and reviewed regularly.
